Privacy First — Key Points
What We Collect
Speed Test Measurements
When you run a speed test, we collect:
- Download speed — measured in Mbps
- Upload speed — measured in Mbps
- Latency — round-trip time in milliseconds
- Jitter — latency variance
- Country — derived from Cloudflare geo-headers (not your IP)
- Device type — mobile, tablet, or desktop (from user agent)
- Connection type — network hint if available (e.g., "4g", "wifi")
- Timezone — for time-of-day analysis only
What We DO NOT Collect
- IP addresses
- GPS coordinates or precise location
- Personal information (name, email, etc.)
- Browser history or cookies (except session token)
- Device identifiers
How We Use Data
All measurement data is aggregated at the country level to calculate connectivity scores. Individual measurements cannot be traced back to any user or device.
- Calculate median speeds and latency per country
- Generate monthly Traveler Scores
- Identify trends in global connectivity
- Publish anonymous, aggregated statistics
Data Retention
After 90 days, raw measurement data is permanently deleted. Only aggregated, anonymous statistics remain.
Consent
Speed tests require explicit opt-in consent. Before any measurement begins, you must acknowledge and accept data collection. You can choose not to participate — this does not affect your ability to view rankings or country data.
Third Parties
We use the following services:
- Cloudflare — CDN and DDoS protection. Provides country-level geo-detection without exposing your IP to our servers.
We do not sell, share, or transfer your data to any other third parties.
Your Rights
Since we don't collect personal identifiers, we cannot identify or retrieve "your" specific data. However, you have the right to:
- Not participate in speed tests
- Use the site without running any measurements
- Contact us with privacy concerns
